(Rogation Sunday)

TOPIC: ASKING IN PRAYERS

READ: JOHN 16: 23-33 (NKJV)

16:23. “And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.

16:24. “Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

16:25. ” These things I have spoken to you in figurative language; but the time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figurative language, but I will tell you plainly about the Father.

16:26. “In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you;

16:27. “for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came forth from God.

16:28. “I came forth from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world and go to the Father.”

16:29. His disciples said to Him, “See, now You are speaking plainly, and using no figure of speech!

16:30. “Now we are sure that You know all things, and have no need that anyone should question You. By this we believe that You came forth from God.”

16:31. Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe?

16:32. “Indeed the hour is coming, yes, has now come, that you will be scattered, each to his own, and will leave Me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.

16:33. “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

THE MESSAGE:

Prayer is said to be the Christian’s vital breath. Rogation Sunday is the beginning of four days traditionally set apart in the Western Church for solemn processions to pray for God’s mercy and blessing for increased agricultural productivity. In today’s passage, Jesus encouraged His disciples to ask and they would receive. God as a Father is interested in meeting the needs of His children. He wants us to come to Him in prayers. I have personally received many answers to prayers. Notable ones apart from salvation are: How God got me employed after seven years of graduation, got us out of debt, gave us a girl after the death of our only daughter, built a big storey building for us, etc.

Beloved, there are many troubles, sicknesses, afflictions, challenges in life. In verse 33, Jesus said that the world is full of troubles but absolute peace is in God. The word of God says “Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayers and thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God”. Use the opportunity of today’s Rogation Sunday to ask God for the healing of our families, schools, Churches, nation, as well as other needs or challenges confronting us. If we are ready to pray, God is ready to answer. Be ready to receive miraculous testimonies as you engage in prayers.
