THE DAILY FOUNTAIN
DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE
CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMNUNION)
DATE: FRIDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2023
TOPIC: DIVINE APPROVAL
17:1. Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves;
17:2. and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.
17:3. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.
17:4. Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
17:5. While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!”
17:6. And when the disciples heard [it,] they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid.
17:7. But Jesus came and touched them and said, “Arise, and do not be afraid.”
17:8. When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.
17:9. Now as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead.”
17:10. And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
17:11. Jesus answered and said to them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and will restore all things.
17:12. “But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands.”
17:13. Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist.

THE MESSAGE:
The experience of Peter, James and John with Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration was very unique. For one, none of the other disciples had this opportunity. However, the words they heard God speak have set me thinking and praying about my own life. How did Jesus live that God was very bold to declare that He was well pleased with Him? I believe it was Jesus’ commitment in doing the will of the Father that brought this about. After all, the Bible clearly states that He (Jesus) loved righteousness and hated wickedness. It is this reason that made God to anoint Him with the oil of gladness above His fellows. Should I not also live in such a way as to please God by my life? If He sees this in me, will He not be bold to introduce me to my generation?
This becomes even more attractive as I recall that God also gave testimony about Moses. He ‘boldly’ declared that His servant, Moses was different; he (Moses) was faithful in God’s house. Note that God could not say these exact words concerning Aaron and Miriam, who ministered alongside Moses. It means that what will mark me out among my fellows is my faithfulness to God in the way I live. Brother, sister, can God boldly introduce you to men? Sir, can Heaven recommend you as someone that others can do business with without being cheated?
PRAYER: O Lord, give me the heart that will please You
