TOPIC: RIGHT MOTIVE IN GIVING

READ: MATTHEW 6:1-4 (NKJV)1. “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven.2. “Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.3. “But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,4. “that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.*THE MESSAGE:*The passage today introduces a very crucial matter in our life – taking heed or being careful that our giving is to God’s glory and not to man’s. God in His show of love and compassion gave His Son freely before giving us other things. According to 2 Corinthians 8:15 and using the Macedonians as a case study, their circumstances, challenges and sufferings notwithstanding, we see five phrases that make giving to God a habit and not a burden: Grace of God, abundance of joy, riches of liberality, willingness and determination. Verse 5 states that they first gave themselves to the Lord. That is the secret. You have to give your life first to Christ and it will be easy for you to give what you have to God.In this our time, many do their charitable deeds to be applauded by people. Jesus admonished that we should not let our left hand know what our right hand is doing while doing charity work. Let your charitable deeds to God, people or the public be done secretly. What is your motive in giving? When you receive reward of applause from men, you will lose the heavenly one. Which do you prefer?*PRAYER:* Lord, give me the understanding to give with the right motive
