TOPIC: THE BEST FIGHT
READ: 1 TIMOTHY 6: 11-16 (NKJV)
11. But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.
12. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
13. I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate,
14. that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing,
15. which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of Lords,
16. who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen.
THE MESSAGE:
The word “fight” means to contend in physical conflict, either in war, battle, etc. It also means to strive or contend for success, to conduct or engage in battle, warfare, etc. Paul in his first letter to Timothy, encouraged him to fight. This fight is not the fight of inordinate ambition but the fight of faith. Jude also gives the same advice when he writes in his letter that Christians should contend for the faith (Jude verse 3).
In 1 Corinthians 9:26b, Paul also said Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air.
Christians live in the last days where faith of many is growing cold (Matthew24:12). Jesus even predicted if He would find faith on the earth when He comes back (Luke 18:8). The battle between the kingdom of God and darkness is becoming fiercer; Christians are at the centre of this battle and we are on the Lord’s side. Christians are to fight the good fight of faith until they lay hold on eternal life. The battle had already been won on the cross but Christians are to fight to sustain the victory.
PRAYER: Lord, make me a winner and not a loser in this fight of faith in Jesus Name. Amen.
