TOPIC: THE ALL SUFFICIENT GOD
READ: PSALM 16:1-11 (NKJV)

1. A Michtam of David. Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust.
2. [O my soul,] you have said to the LORD, “You [are] my Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You.”
3. As for the saints who [are] on the earth, “They are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight.”
4. Their sorrows shall be multiplied who hasten [after] another [god;] Their drink offerings of blood I will not offer, Nor take up their names on my lips.
5. O LORD,[You are] the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You maintain my lot.
6. The lines have fallen to me in pleasant [places;] Yes, I have a good inheritance.
7. I will bless the LORD who has given me counsel; My heart also instructs me in the night seasons.
8. I have set the LORD always before me; Because [He is] at my right hand I shall not be moved.
9. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope.
10. For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.
11. You will show me the path of life; In Your presence [is] fullness of joy; At Your right hand [are] pleasures forevermore.

THE MESSAGE:

The lines have fallen for us in pleasant places and we have a good heritage (verse 6). This is because God is our protection, refuge and shelter (verse 1); the power behind our righteousness (verse 2). He makes us excellently noble and glorious (verse 3). He is our portion, the one who maintains our lot (verse 5); our Counselor in dark moments of life (verse 7); our good Shepherd who never abandons us even in death (verse 10); our Teacher who shows us the path of life; our fountain of happiness derived from His presence (verse 11).

These and many more are the reasons why the Psalmist decided that God shall be continually set before him. With God, we cannot be moved. We dwell in peace and safety in spite of the troubles around us. Have you experienced this goodly heritage? Do you chase after gods in form of idols or fantasies of life? These end in multiplication of sorrows (verse 4). Have you chosen self-righteousness forgetting that no good beside or beyond us is possible without God? Repent and surrender your life to God, your assigned portion (verse 5). Set the Lord continually before you by being always conscious of His presence and allow His word to guide you in your daily decisions. He will make you excellent, noble and glorious as a godly saint (verse 3).

PRAYER: Lord help me to set You continually before me in all decisions of my life
