TOPIC: ESSENTIALS OF GOOD LEADERSHIP

READ: TITUS 1:1-9 (NKJV)1. Paul, a bondservant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect and the acknowledgment of the truth which accords with godliness,2. in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began,3. but has in due time manifested His word through preaching, which was committed to me according to the commandment of God our Savior;4. To Titus, a true son in [our] common faith: Grace, mercy, [and] peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.5. For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded you –6. if a man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of dissipation or insubordination.7. For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money,8. but hospitable, a lover of what is good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled,9. holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.*THE MESSAGE:*In out text, Paul calls Titus his true son and informs him that why he left him in Crete was to do a good job and appoint elders or leaders for the Churches. Paul specified the qualifications for an elder namely: must be blameless, have only one wife, have God-fearing believing children, not hot-tempered, not a drunkard, not violent and does not pursue dishonest gain; must be hospitable, loves what is good, is self-controlled, upright, holy, disciplined and hold on to the gospel truth, to be able to encourage others.Good leadership is very important to the progress of any family, school, business, football team, institution or nation. However, many leaders in developing nations are selfish, not disciplined and some marry many wives while their children live wild and ungodly lives. The church is not left out in this malaise. Some Church leaders are hot-tempered, get drunk with alcoholic drinks and are violent, while some others use church money in their pursuit of dishonest gain. Our politicians do not meet the qualifications too. Some of them are corrupt and embezzle government funds because they are not self-controlled. Indiscipline and corruption are the bane of today’s society and we need to cry to God to help us and give us good leaders.*PRAYER:* Dear Lord. please grant us good leaders after Your heart in Jesus Name. Amen
