THE DAILY FOUNTAIN
DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE
CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: SUNDAY, JUNE 25, 2023
(3rd Sunday after Trinity)
TOPIC: STOP WORRYING, WORSHIP HIM!
READ: MATTHEW 6: 24-34 (NKJV)
6:24. ” No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
6:25. ” Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?
6:26. “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
6:27. “Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
6:28. “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;
6:29. “and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
6:30. “Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, [will He] not much more [clothe] you, O you of little faith?
6:31. “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
6:32. “For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
6:33. “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
6:34. “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day [is] its own trouble.
THE MESSAGE:
Worrying is common with humans and is a very destructive tool that the devil uses to cause us to lose hope in God. Worrying affects our total being and often leads to the growth of other unpleasant habits like impatience, hatred, alcoholism, occultism, stress, depression, suicide, etc. In our text today, we hear the comforting words of our Lord Jesus Christ to His disciples (verse 27; Luke 12: 25). He charged them not to worry about their daily sustenance and future (Matthew 8: 23-27; 14: 15-17).
Has life given you reasons to worry lately? Worry, someone says, does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow; it rather empties today of its strength. One way to cast away your worries is to worship God in prayers and praises (Proverbs 12: 25). Paul and Silas were in prison but instead of worrying, they began to worship God and the miracle came (Acts 16: 25-26). Rick Warren said, “The more you pray, the less you will panic. The more you worship, the less you worry. You’ll feel more patient and less pressured.” Jesus said “Be not afraid little flock, for it is the Father’s pleasure to give you the Kingdom” (Luke 12:32). You are engraved in the palms ofHis hands. Start worshiping God; stop worrying!
PRAYER: Father, I cast all my cares and anxieties upon You today, in Jesus’ name. Amen
