TOPIC: YOUR FRUIT!

READ: MATTHEW 7: 15-20 (NKJV)15. ” Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.16. “You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?17. “Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.18. “A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor [can] a bad tree bear good fruit.19. “Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.20. “Therefore by their fruits you will know them.*THE MESSAGE:*A fruit is the seed-bearing, edible part of a plant or tree, formed on the branches attached to the tree. A fruit describes the kind of tree it is formed from. For example, mango is got from a mango tree. It is expected of every tree to bear fruit (verse 17). The question here is ‘What kind of fruit does the tree bear? A tree can either bear a good or a bad fruit but not both. That is to say, a good fruit must come from a good tree and not otherwise (verse 17).Our reading today describes the quality of life expected of the followers of Christ. We cannot profess to be Christ’s and exhibit characters depicting the Devil. In John 15:5, Jesus says that He is the Vine (tree), we are the branches and if we abide in Him, we will bear much fruit. Jesus is the good ‘tree’; therefore, His branches must bear good fruit. Which tree do you represent? Do you live for Christ or the Devil? You will be known by your fruit. You can only bear the good fruit if you stay constantly attached to the Vine. Then your fruit will not only be ‘much’ but will also bring glory to God by impacting positively on people’s lives (Galatians 5:22-23). The danger in not bearing good fruit is that the tree will be cut down and burnt.*PRAYER:* Dear Father, help me to constantly stay attached to Jesus Christ so as to bear much fruit. Amen
