DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE

CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)

DATE: FRIDAY, JANUARY 26, 2024

(Timothy & Titus: Companions of St. Paul)

TOPIC: CHRIST CAN USE YOU

READ: MARK 16: 14-20 (NKJV)

16:14. Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen.

16:15. And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

16:16. “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

16:17. “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;

16:18. “they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

16:19. So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God.

16:20. And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with [them] and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.

THE MESSAGE:

Today, just a day following the Conversion of Saint Paul, we celebrate Saints Timothy and Titus, close companions of the Apostle Paul. Both of them were Greeks who came to know the Lord and later accompanied Paul on various missionary journeys. They brought in their youthful enthusiasm to their call. Timothy later helped Paul to establish Churches at Philippi, Thessalonica, and Berea. Titus accompanied Paul and Barnabas to the Jerusalem Apostolic Council meeting. He was later sent on urgent missions to Corinth and was entrusted with the organisation of the Church in Crete. In each case, these young men preached the Gospel, proving themselves faithful, reliable and worthy ambassadors of Christ.

The point here is that Jesus’ disciples have a responsibility to proclaim the good news of the salvation provided by Christ Jesus. That good news is the offer of forgiveness of sins and the offer of eternal life. The Lord of the harvest is in the business of sending people into the harvest fields to reap souls (Mark 16: 15). Will He find you available and willing like Timothy and Titus? It doesn’t matter your level of education or exposure; Christ equips all of His disciples to serve Him in different capacities and does extraordinary things through them. He can use you too if you are available.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to go about the task You have assigned to me, Amen
