TOPIC: LIVING ACCORDING TO THE STANDARD
READ: TITUS 2:1-10 (NKJV)

1. But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine:
2. that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience;
3. the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things —
4. that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,
5. to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.
6. Likewise exhort the young men to be sober-minded,
7. in all things showing yourself [to be] a pattern of good works; in doctrine [showing] integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,
8. sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.
9. [Exhort] bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all [things,] not answering back,
10. not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.

THE MESSAGE:

Sound doctrine requires that older men should be sober, worthy of respect, temperate, sound in faith, in love and in endurance. Older women should also by their conduct command respect; they should not be slanderers or drunkards but teachers of good things. They should teach the young women, especially, the newly married, to love their husbands and children. However, some older women have deceived some newly married through gossip and bad advice to disobey and hate their husbands and this has led to many broken homes.

Verse 5 enjoins young women to be self-controlled, chaste, busy at home and obedient to their husbands. But instead of heeding this injunction, some youngwomen live riotous lives, sleep with men in their offices and hotels and thereafter develop the impetus to neglect their own husbands. Some are incurable liars.

Young men should be sober and people with integrity, good work and sound doctrine. Young men who harass, abuse, insult and beat their wives lack integrity, self-respect and self-control. Servants and apprentices who are disobedient, answer back to their masters and steal their masters’ money fall short of the word of God. Ask God for the grace to comply in full with the word of God.

PRAYER: Lord, have mercy upon me and incline my heart to keep Your word.
