TOPIC: NO COMPROMISE!
READ: TITUS 3:1-7 (NKJV)

1. Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work,
2. to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men.
3. For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.
4. But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared,
5. not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,
6. whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior,
7. that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

THE MESSAGE:

Today’s Bible passage sets the boundary within which a Christian should operate. As Christians, we should be subject to the government, rulers and authorities and obey the courts and laws of the land. People who engage in anti-social and anti-economic practices contravene the laws of the land contrary to the word of God. Are you involved?

Verse 1 of the passage requires us to be ready to do whatever is good. This word of God supersedes the law of the land and constitution of the country. For example, if rulers or superiors command you to do a work that is evil, like election malpractice, assassination of opponents, importation of contraband or dangerous weapons, money laundering, etc., you should not obey. Such commands are manifestly unlawful. A person who commits sexual immorality with a boss in the office and claims he/she only obeyed a command is acting contrary to the word of God. Acts 4:19 says that that it is right to obey God more than man.

If you find yourself breaking the commandment of God because you want to obey the rulers of this world or please your superiors in office, you have no justifiable reason before God. From Mark 7:9, we see that as Christians we should not speak evil of anybody, but should be gentle, peaceable and humble.

PRAYER: My Father, please give me the humility to obey the rulers and authorities, and the boldness to say “No” to ungodly orders and instructions in Jesus name, Amen.
