TOPIC: GOOD WORK MATTERS
READ: TITUS 3:8-15 (NKJV)

8. This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men.
9. But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless.
10. Reject a divisive man after the first and second admonition,
11. knowing that such a person is warped and sinning, being self-condemned.
12. When I send Artemas to you, or Tychicus, be diligent to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there.
13. Send Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey with haste, that they may lack nothing.
14. And let our [people] also learn to maintain good works, to [meet] urgent needs, that they may not be unfruitful.
15. All who [are] with me greet you. Greet those who love us in the faith. Grace [be] with you all. Amen.

THE MESSAGE:

The beginning of today’s passage is very crucial. Paul would want it to be stressed and repeated continually that Christians should be careful to keep doing good work, because it is profitable. Many people have hidden under the saying that we are saved by grace through faith and not by our works as a reason not to do good works. This is wrong! The Bible enjoins us to do good work, help the poor, the orphans, the fatherless, the widows, etc, (Read Acts 9:36-43). Dorcas was raised from the dead because of the good work she did towards people. Inasmuch as it is not our good works that saved us, good work is a sign of people who have been saved by grace through faith.

Many times we are in positions to help people but we postpone doing so and eventually fail to do it altogether. Proverbs 3:28 discourages us from postponing doing good work. Psalm 41:1 enjoins us to help the poor. Christians should not involve themselves in foolish and noisy arguments, contentions and strivings; they are not good works and are unprofitable and useless. The best way to treat a contentious person is to cut him off after the first and second warnings. From today, whenever it is within your power to do good work, or to show mercy, don’t delay. Do not delay or frustrate people because they did not give you bribe, or because they did not bow to you.In your place of work, once a person merits a position or thing, give it to him/her without undue delay and useless technicalities.

PRAYER: Ask God to direct a person to you, or direct you to a person whom you will help by your good work
