TOPIC: CRISIS AS OPPORTUNITY TO SEEK JESUS

READ: JOHN 4: 46-54 (NKJV)

4:46. So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee where He had made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum.

4:47. When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and implored Him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.

4:48. Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you [people] see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.”

4:49. The nobleman said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies!”

4:50. Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your son lives.” So the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way.

4:51. And as he was now going down, his servants met him and told [him,] saying, “Your son lives!”

4:52. Then he inquired of them the hour when he got better. And they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.”

4:53. So the father knew that [it was] at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives.” And he himself believed, and his whole household.

4:54. This again [is] the second sign Jesus did when He had come out of Judea into Galilee.

THE MESSAGE:

One of the crises we face in life is illness. Where illness occurs, especially if it is terminal, family members are usually concerned and troubled. This is the case with the royal officer who rushed in from Capernaum to invite Jesus to his house to heal his son who was at the point of death. Jesus did not accept to go with the man, instead He said to him: “Go, your son lives.” The man obeyed and by the time he got home, his son was healed and at the exact time Jesus made the pronouncement. This miracle led to the salvation of the whole household, as they believed the Lord Jesus (verse 53).

We all face crises of different kinds in life – unemployment, poverty, illness, persecutions, hardships, family unrest, disappointments, deaths, etc. However, each crisis is an opportunity to seek the Lord for His intervention and salvation. God often makes use of such crises in our lives to make us seek Him in ways that we would never have done if the crises had not occurred. His promises are yea and amen and should be believed. When you seek and believe Him in such difficult times, God will not only intervene in the crisis, but also draw you into deeper relationship with Him.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, incline my heart to fervently seek You, not only during crisis but even after, Amen
