TOPIC: BEING LIGHT AND SALT

READ: MATTHEW 5:13-16 (NKJV)13. ” You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.14. “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.15. “Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all [who are] in the house.16. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.*THE MESSAGE:*Some days ago, we read of Jesus as the Great Light. In today’s reading, Jesus calls His followers the light of the world. The same way Jesus shows the way in darkness is the same way He desires all believers to do in the world. He made believers to know that as a city set on a hill, their light cannot be hidden. As believers abide in Jesus, the light of Jesus rubs off on them and is reflected to all around them. Jesus stated also that believers are the salt of the earth. As salt, they are to season things and ensure sweetness.Being light and salt are big responsibilities from the Lord Jesus and we cannot fulfil this mandate all by our own effort. He that called us will perfect it if we are willing to follow His examples and guidance. As light, are you shining in that little corner of yours’? Are the powers of darkness aware that light is around? As salt, how many lives have you sweetened? Are you waiting to be declared useless and trampled upon? May we ask the Lord Jesus to energise us to live up to these big responsibilities!*PRAYER:* On my own. I cannot shine as light, or season like a good salt, may You, dear Lord, help me. Amen
