THE MESSAGE:

Today marks the commemoration of the circumcision and naming of Jesus Christ – an important event in the Christian calendar. Circumcision is the outward covenant sign between God and Abraham’s descendants. It entails the actual cutting away of the fore skin of the male genital. This rite of circumcision is one of the things that mark a person as a proper Jew and qualifies Him for the Abrahamic covenant (Genesis 17:10-14). In fact, Jesus was circumcised on the eighth day in accordance with the Law of Moses, and the other processes involved in this rite of circumcision were duly followed as recorded in the passage for today. As a New Testament believer, circumcision new meaning – it is a circumcision of the heart (Romans 2:29). It now refers to a spiritual cutting away of our Adamic (sinful) nature when we become born again and enter into a covenant with God. Consequent upon this circumcision, we have been delivered from the power and tyranny of sin to live a holy, righteous and godly life that glorifies God (Colossians 2:13).

Friend, as we begin the journey of another new year today, be assured that there are many great blessings that God is holding out to you, but you must be a member of the family of God to enjoy them in their fullness. You need to first undergo this spiritual circumcision of the heart to also be a member of this great family. Remember Jesus said it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to dogs (Matthew 7:27).

PRAYER: Dear Lord, please circumcise my heart so I can belong to Your family and so have an unhindered access to Your blessings, Amen!
