TOPIC: THE SUPREMACY OF CHRIST

READ: HEBREWS 1:4-14 (NKJV)

1:4. having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

1:5. For to which of the angels did He ever say: “You are My Son, Today I have begotten You”? And again: “I will be to Him a Father, And He shall be to Me a Son”?

1:6. But when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says: “Let all the angels of God worship Him.”

1:7. And of the angels He says: “Who makes His angels spirits And His ministers a flame of fire.”

1:8. But to the Son [He says:] “Your throne, O God, [is] forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness [is] the scepter of Your Kingdom.

1:9. You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.”

1:10. And: “You, LORD, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands.

1:11. They will perish, but You remain; And they will all grow old like a garment;

1:12. Like a cloak You will fold them up, And they will be changed. But You are the same, And Your years will not fail.”

1:13. But to which of the angels has He ever said: “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool”?

1:14. Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?

THE MESSAGE:

Our reading today focuses on the superiority of Christ over angels. Jesus is neither an angel nor a mere man. He is the Son of God, sent to the world for the purpose of redemption. Jesus alone is referred to as the Son of God, and God commanded his angels to worship Him as his Firstborn, whose throne will last forever, with righteousness as the sceptre of his kingdom. Angels are ministering spirits who minister to those who shall be heirs of salvation. They are sent to serve and help God’s children. However, many believers do not put their angels to work.In the Bible, we see how people were delivered through angels (Acts 5:19; 12:7). Jesus, in Matthew 18:10, says, “Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, that in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.” In other words, angels are at our service; but they are not greater or mightier than our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Friend, it is good to recognise the place and power of angels in protecting and delivering, but they cannot be compared with the power of Jesus. He is our final authority and the one we should worship.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus I recognise Your supremacy over angels and all creation, I bow to You alone today, Amen!
