TOPIC: PRAISING THE LORD FOR ALL HIS BENEFITS

READ: PSALM 103: 1-18 (NKJV)

103:1. [A Psalm] of David. Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, [bless] His holy name!

103:2. Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits:

103:3. Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases,

103:4. Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,

103:5. Who satisfies your mouth with good [things,] [So that] your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

103:6. The LORD executes righteousness And justice for all who are oppressed.

103:7. He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel.

103:8. The LORD [is] merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.

103:9. He will not always strive [with us,] Nor will He keep [His anger] forever.

103:10. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor punished us according to our iniquities.

103:11. For as the heavens are high above the earth, [So] great is His mercy toward those who fear Him;

103:12. As far as the east is from the west, [So] far has He removed our transgressions from us.

103:13. As a father pities [his] children, [So] the LORD pities those who fear Him.

103:14. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we [are] dust.

103:15. [As for] man, his days [are] like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.

103:16. For the wind passes over it, and it is gone, And its place remembers it no more.

103:17. But the mercy of the LORD [is] from everlasting to everlasting On those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children’s children,

103:18. To such as keep His covenant, And to those who remember His commandments to do them.

THE MESSAGE:

This Psalm praises God for His personal blessings – forgiving our iniquities, healing our diseases, redeeming us from destruction, showing mercy, renewing our youth like the eagle’s, etc. (verses 1-5). It praises God for His forgiving love – merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in mercy, etc. It also praises God for His eternal love – the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him (verses 15-18).

Nobody can count all we benefit from the Lord. It includes keeping us alive on a daily basis, protecting us on our going out and coming in, providing our daily needs beyond the effort we make, blessing us with the fruit of the womb, granting us sound health, shielding us from all dangers that lurk around us as well as prospering our handiwork and children. It must be for all these and more that the Psalmist asked in 116: 12, “What shall I render to the Lord for all His benefits toward me.” Of course, the answer is ‘nothing’ than to give Him more praise. Please don’t take God’s blessings for granted or a result of your personal efforts. Prayer:”Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits, the God of our salvation- Psalm 68:19.
