THE DAILY FOUNTAIN
DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE
CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 09, 2025
(Epiphany 5)
TOPIC: GOD’S PACKAGE FOR HIS OWN
READ: 1 CORINTHIANS 2:1-11 (NKJV)
2:1. And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God.
2:2. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
2:3. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling.
2:4. And my speech and my preaching [were] not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,
2:5. that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
2:6. However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.
2:7. But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden [wisdom] which God ordained before the ages for our glory,
2:8. which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
2:9. But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
2:10. But God has revealed [them] to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.
2:11. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.
THE MESSAGE:
Verse 9 of our text clearly states thus: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him” (cf. Isaiah 64:4). God has revealed them to us through His Spirit in the Scriptures. Examples of God’s package for His own include peace of mind, daily provisions, protection, favour, joy, eternal life, etc. Such assurances are mind-blowing and very encouraging in a confused world where many do not know the next direction to take. World economies have crumbled; many are now hopeless. However, God assures us of a better hope and this should help us to march forward despite the troubles. We do not need to live like people who have no hope (1Thessalonians 4:13). The Scripture makes us understand in Matthew 6:33 that when we first seek God and His righteousness, the things that men struggle for, will be ours. The most reassuring thought is that God’s package goes beyond this world. Eternal life awaits His children who remain faithful to the end.
Part of our duty to God today is to present Him with confidence to those around us who may be in despair. We are to bring hope to them by sharing the package God has for His children. God’s package is enough to go round. Please invite others today to share from it.
PRAYER: Dear Father, may You help me and others not to miss Your package in Jesus name. Amen!
