ANCHORED SCRIPTURES: MATTHEW 9:37-38, MATTHEW 28:19-20
MINISTER: DR. DANIEL OLUKOYA (G.O MFM WORLDWIDE)

The MESSAGE:

And just in case you are wondering, two things take place in heaven frequently: joy and lamentation. Joy over sinners that are saved, lamentation over those who are not what heaven wants them to be. It goes on everyday.

Heavens lament when things are not working out the way they should work out in people’s lives. Heavens lament over so many things. But the greatest lamentation is what I want to briefly discuss now and this lamentation is landing, has landed and will surely land many Christians in trouble with God.

Unfortunately, our generation is a generation that looks only at the hands of God, and not His face. We just look at His hands “give me this, give me that, do this, do that” but we do not see the face of the person we are talking to; whether He is happy or not.

What a strange generation. We specialize in looking at the hands of God and not His face. Nobody says “God do you have any problem?” “God, do you have any concern?” It is always ‘give me, give me’.

The greatest concern of God which is His heartbeat is found in Matthew 9:37. It is good to listen very carefully especially if you have been born again for more than a year.

If you have ever cried to the Lord saying “God do you have any problem?” If you have ever asked God “Father, are you worried about anything?” Then you find the answer in that scripture.

According to that scripture, the farm is greater than the farmers.
A lot of us; God has blessed and promoted. He did that so you can serve. The Bible said David served God in his generation. It is because of his service we are remembering him today. And in everything beloveth, those are mostly blessed, those who go out of their way to be a blessing to others are those who put God first in everything.

The heartbeat of God, His greatest lamentation is that there is plenty of harvest but the labourers are few. You say “but there are plenty of churches”, Yes! But the labourers therein are few. We have plenty of pastors, but the pastors therein are few. Plenty of overseers, but the overseers therein are few. Plenty of superintendents, but the superintendents therein are few.

This is the lamentation of heaven. His lamentation is mission. Mission is the act of going or sending somebody to work. You go forth to perform a service. That mission, evangelism, winning the lost, is the heartbeat of God.

The issue of mission and evangelism is so important that our Lord Jesus Christ came to this earth and worked and died as a missionary. And when He was going, he left with us what is known as The Great Commission. As He was going away, He committed The Great Commission into our hands.

The Great Commission is “go and teach the whole world; convert the world to your classroom”. But beloveth it is a lamentable tragedy that, that great commission has become great omission for our churches.

Reaching the world was the greatest priority of our Lord Jesus Christ and should be our church priority as well. Our God is mission and evangelism minded. God is a missionary God. Jesus is a missionary Christ. The Holy Spirit is a missionary Spirit.

This great commission “Go into the world” is a mission mandate. It identifies every local church as the centre for world evangelism. But where you are, you demonstrate the power of God there and evangelize. You evangelize with your life, with your words, with your activities.

So that mission and evangelism is the heart of Christ. It is the only hope of the condemned. And that mission is the health of the church.

Beloveth, the truth is this: only a church that does mission can justify their existence before God. Only a church that does evangelism, that goes out to look for the lost can justify their existence.

A church that does not do evangelism is actually opposed to the will of God. The last words of Jesus to His disciples were “go and make disciples”.

Any fire that does not spread will eventually go out. Any church that does not pursue evangelism and mission is dead. We are supposed to be fishers of men. God did not make us keepers of aquarium, He made us fishers of men.

We as members who have been born again and saved are to be harvesters of souls. Ministers and pastors are not supposed to be maintenance ministers, just maintaining what they have. If that is what they are doing, they are just keepers of aquarium, they are not fishers of men.

People only seek to preserve the sheep in the fold. So you have been born again for over a year. Can you point to one person that through you, came to Christ? Is there anybody you are following up?

You are coming to Manna water program, coming for PMCH and the rest but have you ever invited people to surrender their lives to Jesus in a program? Or are you the kind of person in your house where you live, that people are saying “instead of me to follow this person to church, I would rather not go to any church at all”?

Your life, your business dealings, what you are doing with your boss in the office, what you are doing with the ladies in your office, is it preaching the gospel?

Would that secretary you are sleeping with, follow you to church? This is a very serious matter, and I want you to understand it very well.

Our mission is global and our mandate is very urgent because many people are dying everyday without Christ. Jesus did not command the whole world to go to church, Jesus commanded the church to go to the world. We should go there.

I am saying this so that you will understand. Mission is very important and the basic methods of missions:

  1. Somebody has to go,
  2. Somebody has to send them,
  3. If you cannot go, you send somebody in your place.

The harvest is wasting every day. A minimum of 700,000 people die everyday. To worsen the case, many doors are closing to the gospel in many nations now. It is now so difficult to get into some nations to even preach the gospel.

The kingdom of darkness is gathering speed and increasing operations. Beloveth, I am saying my own now. We must move because there will be judgment if we do not move. If we delay, the world will decay further.

The problem with Nigerian Christianity is that instead of us to begin to disciple people who will go and preach the gospel, we were teaching them prosperity. They taught them prosperity but they did not disciple them.

So it is the people we refuse to disciple that are now killing people all over the place. Those we did not reach. The time we should have reached them, they were preaching prosperity to the Christians. And so the Christians have money, and the devil is using that money to silence people.

We have more than 505 languages in Nigeria. Over 505 languages in Nigeria and only 21 languages have the complete Bible. 57 languages have just the New Testament, not Old Testament and like 32 languages have maybe Luke, Mark, Psalms, and yet there are Christians who come to church and do nothing.

There are Christians who have money, who cannot say “Bible Society, take this, translate more Bibles, make more Bibles available.”

There are many groups across Africa who are basically unreached with the gospel. The Fulanis are 14 million people in 17 countries. Basically unreached. The Mandigo people are 13 million people in 14 countries, basically unreached.

Those who speak Hausa are about 3 million people in 18 countries, basically unreached. Targeting these ones with the gospel will entirely change our continent.

So, there would have been no church in Africa today, if there were no missionaries yesterday. So a church without evangelism, without mission has no future.

The church is an offensive agent of divine conquest. We can not continue complaining about ritualists and kidnappers; it is because we did not convert them, they are now attacking us.

This is the situation. The harvest is plenty. The labourers are few. It is the concern of heaven. The church in Nigeria now is overeducated. They have academy without knowledge. They have architecture without duty. They are overadvertised. They have presence without power.

I am saying this to you, so you know what the lamentation is all about. Will you be able to look at the face of God and say “Father I see your face, I know that you are not happy. You want me to be an instrument in your hand but I am not doing much. I come to church, I share the grace and off I go. While souls are perishing, I am doing nothing about it. Okay, maybe I cannot even go. This is my money, use my money to send people”.

This is why we are saying this now.
