THE GREATEST PAIN YOU SHOULD FEEL FOR OTHERS

2Peter 3:9 (CEV, LB) …for the Lord one day is the same as a thousand years, and a thousand years is the same as one day. The Lord isn’t slow about keeping his promises, as some people think he is. In fact, God is patient, because he wants everyone to turn from sin and no one to be lost… *a day or a thousand years from now is like tomorrow to the Lord. He isn’t really being slow about his promised return,… But he is waiting, for the good reason that he is not willing that any should perish, and he is giving more time for sinners to repent.

One of the greatest pains we feel for others is when they lose something very precious or when they pass on and are no more here with us physically. Yes, it is important for us to rejoice with those that rejoice and mourn with those that mourn (Rom.12:15), but the greatest pain we should feel for others is if they leave this earth without accepting Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. Jesus said, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36). No matter what a person enjoys, experiences or achieves on this earth, if they do not enjoy eternity with God when they leave this earth, they have profited nothing.

When a believer passes on, we do not really lose them because we shall see them again. But when an unbeliever passes on, we have lost them because by not accepting Jesus, they have missed their opportunity to spend eternity with God.
The Bible says, “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints,” (Psa.116:15). This means that painful and terrible in the sight of God is the death of a sinner or anyone who is not saved. Apostle Paul said, “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain,” (Phil.1:21). If to live is Christ and to die is gain, then to live and die without Christ is a big loss. To avoid this pain and great loss, we must do everything we can to pray for the salvation of the souls of men and also preach the gospel to them, (Luke 10:2-3, 1Tim.2:1-4).

For those who are saved, the greatest pain we should feel is if we see any believer being exploited or living below God’s abundant provision for them in Christ. This pain should make us pray for them and preach the Gospel to them also.

Action Point:
Pray for those not saved around you and ask God to use you to reach them with the Gospel. Pray for believers too, to be grounded in Christ.
