MINISTER: DR. DANIEL OLUKOYA (G.O MFM WORLDWIDE)

The MESSAGE:

Matthew 4:19 – “And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

This scripture is telling us once again that a disciple is a learner, open and teachable. A disciple will put Christ first in all areas of his life.

A disciple is committed to a life of purity and is always taking steps to separate himself from sin. If you see anyone who is not taking step to be free from sin, then the person is not a disciple.

Your body is the temple of God. You cannot do anything you want with that body, and you must keep the body pure. So, a disciple is committed to living a life of purity.

The Bible says you should put off all the former conversations, the old man and then move close to Jesus. A disciple is a person who has a daily devotional life and is developing on his prayer life.

Jesus gave us an example. You must have a daily devotional life. You must observe your quiet time everyday: all disciples do their quiet time everyday and at that time, nobody can disturb them.

They put everything away like phone or television so that that time, they devote to the Almighty. A disciple has the heart to witness to others. They will be talking to others about Jesus. They will not be afraid to share the gospel.

The departing charge of Jesus says “Go and convert the world to your classroom”. So if you see somebody who is not interested in preaching Christ, who is not interested in ministering to others and evangelism, the person is not a disciple.

A disciple attends church regularly to worship God. He will not neglect the assembling of the saints according to Hebrews 10:25. There is power in being a disciple but many people do not know.

So a disciple of Jesus is not one who will say “I am angry and annoyed so I am not coming to church.” A disciple follows regularly with other believers, displaying love and unity. That is a disciple.

A disciple demonstrates a servant heart by helping others in practical ways. Always helping others to do things. Even if they are not asked to help, they want to help. That is a servant heart.

Jesus called His disciples unto Him and told them “the greatest person is the person with a servant heart.” A disciple gives regularly and honours God with their substance. A disciple pays the correct tithes, and gives offerings because he is giving to the work of his Master.

A disciple will demonstrate the fruit of the spirit. The fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness: against such there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23).

I want you to understand this very well. When you are a true disciple:

  1. You will have riches and honour within your house. Or did the Bible not say “seek ye first the kingdom of heaven and His righteousness, and all other things shall be added unto you”?
  2. When dark circumstances surround you, God’s light will be there for you.

PRAYER:

  • Raise up your right hand to the heavenlies: Darkness in my life, I am not your candidate, scatter in the name of Jesus!

These are deep truths that many people do not know. Many think a disciple is supposed to suffer. Yes, you can suffer for Christ, but wealth and riches will be in your home.

  1. What is meant for evil in your life will be transformed to good.
  2. You will never be shaken from the foundation of your faith. No true disciple will say “they did something to me and I am not happy so I went back to the world.” That is not a disciple. Even if others are falling right, left, centre and everywhere, you remain standing.
  3. Divine protection will be upon you and your family. It is automatic because God preserves His disciples.

God is speaking to you today. Have you become a mountain of disappointment to the Lord? Are you an evangelist that is not evangelising? The cry today is loud and clear.

God is looking for disciples who will follow Him 24/7. Those who will not follow the world. Those who will give up anything to follow the Lord.

Without being true disciples of Christ, we cannot confront the rage of the enemy that is rising against us everyday. How sad will it be when God is calling us to fruitfulness in the things of God and we have nothing to deliver!

Beloveth, can you not see how fast the time is flying? Can you not see the purposeless Christianity that is all around us? Can you not see how idle Christians have become? Can you not see that disappointment in the face of the Almighty?

Can you not see that many Christians are playing on God’s intelligence? So you think He is not seeing you, that He does not understand what is going on. Can you not see that people are supposed to be gathering fruits but are just gathering leaves and flowers for Christ?

Can you not see that the life of the average Christian is not attracting anybody to Christ? Can you not see the sadness in the face of the Lord? He said “I spent many years for you, how many years have you spent for me?”

Do you really feel sorry for your sins? Do we confess our sins to God? Truly, have we completely left our sins? Do we have spiritual parasites in our lives? Are there wrong things in our lives we need to correct?

These are the parasites. Parasites are very bad creatures. They absorb strength from the branch, hinder growth, hinder the production of fruits. Are there sinful things in our lives that can cause weaknesses and unfruitfulness?

There is no such thing as partial sin, partial holiness, partial righteousness, part-time/partial Christian, partial lie, partial truth. A vessel is never partially clean. It is either clean or dirty.

A line is either straight or crooked. You are either a Christian or a sinner, a disciple or a church-goer, in or out. You are either for Christ or against Him even if you go to church.

You cannot have the fruit of sin in your life and expect to be a disciple of Christ. I want you to understand this very very well.

One sin in the life of so many people, that is keeping them from being disciples is jealousy. Another is pride.

Jealous people feel a great pressure to prove themselves and catch up with others. They compare themselves with others. They do not rejoice when other people who have good things are rejoicing.

They are reluctant to promote anything that will not benefit them directly. They fear being overlooked by people. They are very hostile towards others who are doing well.

They convince themselves that they deserve what the other person has. They rejoice when others fall.

Pride: is like an acid slowly destroying good things. It produces arrogance and unteachableness. Proud people find it so hard to accept correction. They are deeply involved in self congratulations.

Do you want to be a disciple of Christ? Certain things have to go. Certain things have to leave. You must have a rugged determination.

“I want my life to matter for Jesus. I do not want the gardener to come and say ‘cut it down. He has been born again for ten years, for five years but his record here shows that he has done nothing!’”

Do you just want to end the journey of life by just being born, getting married, getting a house if you can, having children and then you die? Is that how you want to end up?

This is a very serious matter and this is why this morning we need to call on the chief discipler. The chief discipler is the Holy Ghost. We need to call on the Holy Ghost who is the greatest teacher to possess our lives.

The more you are full of the Holy Ghost, the more certain things cannot enter into your life again. The Bible says “be full of the Holy Ghost, not with fresh wine”.
