Years ago, I read a magazine article entitled, “The Best Things in Life Aren’t Things.” In it, the writer listed 35 things to illustrate her point – things like coming home, and the smell of freshly baked bread. If you surveyed any group of people and asked them to name the best thing in life, most would respond, “happiness.” But the problem with happiness is that it is based on circumstances. Instead, I propose that the best thing in life is joy. Joy is not only God-given; it is independent of what’s going on in your life. God gives us joy when we receive His son Jesus as Lord and Savior. God gave His best that we might experience the best of all gifts – His unspeakable joy.
