BIBLE MEDITATION:

“For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us” (2 Corinthians 1:20)

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:

Another way of saying it is: “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through Him, the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.” God had already prophesied that He was going to do something, but still Daniel prayed.

Daniel could have just leaned back, put his feet up, and said, “Well, God, since You prophesied You’re going to do it, there’s no need for me to pray about it.” But he didn’t.

It’s a strange thing—the Bible teaches us to pray about what God has already promised He would do.

  • Revelation 11:15 says, “…The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ; and He shall reign forever and ever!” Yet Jesus taught us to pray “Thy kingdom come and Thy will be done…”
  • The Bible teaches there’s going to be peace in Jerusalem, yet Psalm 122:6 tells us to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem.”
  • Jesus Christ is going to come again. In Revelation 22:20, John prays, “Even so, come, Lord Jesus!” It is prophesied, yet we’re told to pray it will happen.

ACTION POINT:

Even when God says He’s going to do something, He does it through the prayers of His people. God wants us to have a part in bringing about His will upon this earth through prayer.
