8 Days That Changed The World

“Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair.” John 12:3

The last eight days Jesus was on the earth changed the world. The first day, Jesus came riding into Jerusalem on a donkey. This was a day of celebration and the people waved palm branches and praised Him. Palm branches are a symbol of victory. When an athlete or a general won a great victory, they would be given a crown made out of palm branches. Wherever Jesus goes, victory goes!

The second day Jesus went to the temple and the Bible said, “He overturned the money tables, and He begin to preach, my house shall be called a house of prayer.” He overturned the god of money. Jesus was enforcing that there should be no other gods before God. Money cannot be your god. Material things cannot be your god. Resources cannot be your god. He overturned the money tables to symbolize that you are not to base your life on material things. God should be the number one priority of your life. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul? On that second day Jesus did many things, but the major thing He did was establish “no other gods before me.”

The most memorable thing on the third day, was a woman named Mary Magdalene who came with an expensive basin of anointing oil. The Bible said the oil cost one year’s wages. Mary Magdalene was the woman who was once controlled by seven demons. At one time, all she had ever known was torment and the power of Satan. Maybe like this woman, all you can remember is being a slave to drugs or alcohol. It’s ruining your life and it’s taking everything you have. When Mary met Jesus, He broke the power of Satan off of her life on that third day and she couldn’t get over it. So she broke open the alabaster box, and she fell at His feet and began to worship Him. It was this day that Jesus established worship.  He told His disciples, don’t make fun of her and don’t put her away. Jesus said that this woman who wasn’t ashamed to worship Him, should be talked about wherever the gospel is preached. You can praise with a smile and hands raised but true worship requires you to be broken. Worship Him today in spirit and in truth.
