A Necessary Division Over God’s Truth

“And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.”

2 PETER 2:2

Ponder This

Heresies always cause division. When someone comes along and teaches something contrary to the Word of God, we can’t just open our arms and say, “Oh well, that’s all right. We’re un-American if we don’t admit that what you believe is just as authentic as what we believe.” No, there is the Word of God. And so, a heretic is someone who causes division in the Church. You may say, “Pastor Rogers, rather than letting them cause division, why don’t we just welcome them in?” No, my dear friend, a little leaven leavens the whole lump. And listen to me, division is painful and terrible, but it is better to be divided by truth than united by error. There are certain things God calls us to stand firm on and one of those is the truth of His Word.

• How does regular time spent in the Word help you know what is worth dividing with others over for the sake of truth?
• What is the cost if we fail to divide over the things God has made clear in His Word?
