Memorise: Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: Exodus 19:5

BIBLE READING: 1 Samuel 15:22-27

22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

24 And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.

25 Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD.

26 And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.

27 And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent.

Bible Reading In One Year: Ecclesiastes 7-9; 2 Corinthians 11:1-33

MESSAGE:

Some believe that God is partial especially when they talk about the story of Jacob and Esau. Well, I like that kind of partiality and I will like God to be partial in my favour thereby making me God’s favourite. Whether you believe it or not, God has favourites. In today’s Bible reading, God sent one of His favourites to another of His favourites to tell him that He prefers obedience rather than sacrifice. Instead of Saul to repent, h gave excuses and God rejected him. 1 Samuel 16:13-14 tells us that King Saul woke up a king one day, before the end of the day, he had become a lunatic. Go doesn’t leave room for disobedience, especially when you are His favorite.

Believe me honestly, if you keep and obey God’s commandments, you will become a peculiar treasure above everyone else on the surface of the earth. Remember however, just as we have seen in the case of Saul, being God’s favourite is a choice that can be reversed by oneself. So you need to hold tight to God when you become His peculiar treasure.

Action Point:

Father, make me your favorite and help me remain so all the days of my life.

Hymn: When We Walk With The Lord

  1. When we walk with the Lord
    In the light of His Word,
    What a glory He sheds on our way!
    While we do His good will,
    He abides with us still,
    And with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey,
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.

  1. Not a shadow can rise,
    Not a cloud in the skies,
    But His smile quickly drives it away;
    Not a doubt or a fear,
    Not a sigh or a tear,
    Can abide while we trust and obey.
  2. Not a burden we bear,
    Not a sorrow we share,
    But our toil He doth richly repay;
    Not a grief or a loss,
    Not a frown or a cross,
    But is blessed if we trust and obey.
  3. But we never can prove
    The delights of His love
    Until all on the altar we lay;
    For the favor He shows,
    For the joy He bestows,
    Are for them who will trust and obey.
  4. Then in fellowship sweet
    We will sit at His feet,
    Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
    What He says we will do,
    Where He sends we will go;
    Never fear, only trust and obey.
