A Proper Perspective on Prophecy
by Greg Laurie on Sep 22, 2021 And so, dear friends, while you are waiting for these things to happen, make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight —2 Peter 3:14Scripture:2 Peter 3:14
I think people go to one of two extremes when we come to the topic of Bible prophecy. The first extreme is complete ignorance about it. And in some cases, people don’t even want to really know that much about it. That is a big mistake.
The other extreme is an obsession with it. Everything that people in this category read and hear is, in their minds, a fulfillment of Bible prophecy.
However, the only thing worse than being obsessed with Bible prophecy is ignoring it altogether, because the Bible promises a special blessing to the person who reads, hears, and keeps the words of the prophecy of the Lord Jesus Christ (see Revelation 1:3).
The Bible clearly teaches that Christ is coming back again. And if we really believe that Jesus Christ is coming back again soon, it will cause us to want to live godly lives.
John wrote, “Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure” (1 John 3:2–3 NLT).
Believing that Jesus Christ will return has a spiritually purifying effect on our lives. And it also should motivate us to reach others with the message of the gospel.
Peter reminds us, “And so, dear friends, while you are waiting for these things to happen, make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight. And remember, our Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved” (2 Peter 3:14–15 NLT).
We want to reach as many as we can as we wait for the Lord’s return.
