A ROYAL’S FEAR

June 19, 2020

“When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You. In God, whose word I praise, in God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. What can mere man do to me?” – PSALM 56:3-400:0000:00

We’ve all heard the familiar Bible story of David killing Goliath, a Philistine giant from Gath. But fast forward a few years. When David learned that King Saul was out to kill him, he fled to Achish (A-kish), the king of Gath! The servants of Achish recognized David and hurled taunts at him. The stone-slinging giant killer didn’t look so tough to them now! The Bible says David became very afraid. That’s right – Israel’s future king let their threatening insults build a fortress of fear in his heart! The good news is, as we see in our passage, David’s faith won out over his fear, because he put his trust in God!

Are there any fears entrenched in your heart? Take time to confess them to the Lord, and like David, turn to God’s Word and praise Him. He is trustworthy, and will help you tear down your heart’s fortress of fear.
