I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.— Philippians 3:12 (NLT)
The Bible says that it’s our job to press toward the mark of perfection, but at the same time, we can’t reach perfection until Jesus, the Perfect One, comes to take us to live with Him for eternity (see 1 Corinthians 13:9-10). We can definitely grow, change and do better and better. But if we obtained perfection in our behavior, we would no longer need Jesus—and that is never going to happen on this side of heaven.
We can, however, have perfect hearts toward God by genuinely wanting His will and doing all we can to work with Him toward that goal. God knows your heart, and He sees you as perfect even while you’re still making the journey toward perfection.
Prayer Starter: Father, please help me to keep a perfect heart toward You. Thank You for staying patient with me and seeing me as perfect in Christ, even while I’m still growing. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
