ALWAYS HAVE HOPE

Philemon 1:21-23 (LB), Philippians 1:18-19 (GNB)

I’ve written you this letter because I am positive that you will do what I ask and even more! Please keep a guest room ready for me, for I am hoping that God will answer your prayers and let me come to you soon. Epaphras my fellow prisoner, who is also here for preaching Christ Jesus, sends you his greetings.“I am happy … Christ is preached in every way possible…And I will continue to be happy, because I know that by means of your prayers and the help which comes from the Spirit of Jesus Christ I shall be set free.

While writing to Philemon from prison, Apostle Paul admonished him on forgiving his former servant Onesimus, who was now born again and then Apostle Paul makes an interesting request to Philemon. He asked Philemon to prepare a guest room for him. He was hopeful that by their prayers, he will be released to them. He was not afraid and hopeless that he might die in prison and not see them again. He knew that they were praying for his release so he could come and be a blessing to their faith and he was confident that God would answer their prayer. Beloved, our God answers prayers and for this, we should always have hope. Apostle Paul was confident that by their prayers and the supply of the Spirit, he would be set free. Beloved, be confident that as you pray, God will supply the power of His Spirit and deliver you or whoever you are praying for, from every and any kind of negative condition or limitation.

As you pray and have hope, let your greatest hope be for Christ to be glorified in your life by the power of His! Spirit. From our text above, it seems Apostle Paul was not praying to be released from prison. In the two scriptures in our text above, Apostle Paul spoke about his being free from prison by the prayers of other believers. All he wanted was for Christ to be glorified whether by his life or by his death. When he was in prison with Silas, they were not praying and singing at midnight to be released from prison. They were just rejoicing in Christ and after the jail broke, they remained there and preached the gospel to the jailer and his family, (Acts 16:25-32). When he was considering whether to remain on earth or to leave, he decided to stay so he could be a blessing to the faith of other believers, (Phil.1:23-26). This is a higher level of hope.

Faith Declaration:
I always have hope. As I pray, by His Spirit, God supplies His power and provision to deliver me and who I am praying for.
