Amy Grant Hospitalized, in ‘Stable Condition’ following Bike Accident
Contemporary Christian Music artist and six-time Grammy award winner Amy Grant has been hospitalized after a bike accident on Wednesday.
According to Religion News Service, Grant’s accident occurred on Wednesday. She was taken to a hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, where she is in stable condition.
“She was wearing a helmet and taken to Vanderbilt where she was treated for cuts and abrasions, and is in stable condition,” Velvet Kelm, Grant’s spokeswoman, told Religion News Service on Thursday. “She was admitted & stayed overnight as a precaution and will be staying another night for observation and treatment.”
In a post on social media, Grant’s team confirmed that the “Baby, Baby” singer was hospitalized following a bike accident and is “expected to go home later this week where she will continue to heal.”
“Your kind thoughts and heartfelt prayers are felt and received. Amy was wearing her helmet, and we would remind you all to do the same!”
Grant’s husband, country singer Vince Gill, canceled his upcoming performances this weekend to be with his wife, Deadline reports.
The bike accident comes less than a week after Grant was named a 2022 Kennedy Center honoree along with actor George Clooney, singer Gladys Knight, Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Tania León, and Irish rock band U2.
“Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine ever receiving this prestigious Kennedy Center Honors,” Grant said after learning of the honor.
“Through the years, I’ve watched so many of my heroes serenaded by colleagues and fellow artists, always moved by the ability of music and film to bring us together and to see the best in each other,” she added.
“I cannot wait to celebrate with my fellow honorees, friends, and family. Thank you for widening the circle to include all of us.”
Grant, whose music career spans over four decades, is the first contemporary Christian artist to top the pop charts with her 1986 single “Next Time I Fall,” which she performed with Peter Cetera of the band Chicago. She is also the first CCM artist to perform at the Grammys.
Her fame increased following the release of her hit song ‘Baby, Baby’ from her 1991 platinum album Heart in Motion.
According to Grant’s website, she is scheduled to perform in Knoxville, Tennessee, on Aug. 18, as part of her ongoing tour.
