AN ASPECT OF CARE

“He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.”

-JOHN 21:17-

The scenario between Jesus and Peter depicts the reality of life. Oftentimes, we claim to love others, but our actions do not prove the same. We love so much more in words than we do indeed, and it is the deed aspect of love that counts. All through Scriptures, where love is mentioned, you realise that it’s a big deal before God.

The very essence of Christianity and the foundation upon which we stand as believers is love. True love is expressed in your care for others. As a minister, do you really care for the flock of God kept in your custody, or is your love for them just in words? If you truly care, your message, actions, and attitude toward them, no matter their colour, race, social status, or educational qualification, will prove that.

The welfare we talk about does not mean material welfare, although that is included, but it begins with ensuring their buoyancy in the truth of the Word of God. Jesus our perfect example, never ministered with sentiments, but He was as true with the Word as He really is (John 14:6; John 8:32). He was more concerned with the salvation and establishment of souls than any material gain. So, we ought to take a clue from Him.

Consider the time you spend in preparing the Word that would edify their spirit, compared to what you spend the rest of your hours on. As a minister inculcate Acts 6:4 as a daily routine because that is your major duty, and that is what would really help you care for God’s sheep. Ministry is hard work, so you must engage in it with all seriousness. The Lord will grant you the wisdom to be diligent in service in the name of Jesus Christ!
