ARE YOU ‘DOING WELL?’

2Kings 7:8-9

And when these lepers came to the…camp, they went into one tent, and did eat and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and raiment, and went and hid it;…and entered into another tent, and carried thence also, and went and hid it. Then they said one to another, We do not well: this day is a day of good tidings, and we hold our peace: …now therefore come, that we may go and tell the king’s household.

Humanly speaking, the lepers in our text above had every reason to continue having fun and enjoying themselves. A short while ago, they were completely hopeless and without any source of food or resources. But by divine providence, they had stumbled into an unbelievable abundance of food and wealth. They ate and drank, then began taking silver and gold from one tent to another to hide for themselves. It then dawned on them that they were not doing well. How were they not doing well? By keeping all that good news and blessings to themselves.

Life is more than what we can get and keep for ourselves. Life is also about giving and being a blessing to others. In Luke 12:25, Jesus said, “Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.” In the parable of the talents, the master only applauded his “good and faithful servants” who did not hide or keep what they were given to themselves(Matt.25:14-30). We are blessed to be a blessing.

Now, just as this lesson can be applied physically, it can also be applied spiritually. Having received all of God’s grace and blessings in Christ, if we are only enjoying the revelation of God’s grace and blessings from one service or program to the other and hiding it or keeping it to ourselves, we are not doing well. God expects us to share the good news of His abundant love and grace with others.

Prayer:
Father, I thank you for the revelation of your abundant grace and blessings in Christ. Please help me to always share it with others.
