Are You Exchanging Your Weakness for God’s Strength?

December 13, 2021

PRAY OVER THIS:

“But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

PONDER THIS:

The word renew, in Hebrew, literally means to exchange strength. In the context of this verse, Isaiah was saying God’s people shall exchange their strength. The Christian life is an exchanged life. Have you ever taken a Christmas present back to the store to exchange it? Similarly, we are to take our so-called strength, which is actually weakness, and exchange it for God’s strength. Those who wait upon the Lord shall exchange their strength. I give Him my strength, which is really weakness—for the weakness of God is stronger than men—and God gives His strength to me as an exchange. It’s the same thing the apostle Paul talked about in Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” That is more than a changed life; it is an exchanged life.

  • Where have you sought to rely on your own strength over that which God offers?
  • How have you seen the reality that God’s strength surpasses ours in every way?

PRACTICE THIS:

Go for a walk today, prayerfully considering the areas in which you are not waiting on the Lord but are instead seeking to work in your own strength. Ask Him to help you exchange your strength for His.
