ARE YOU GROWING SPIRITUALLY?

Hebrews 5:12-14, 1Timothy 4:8. For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. *..bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things…

When the Bible says you ought to be teachers, it is also saying that by now you ought to know and be practising the things of God such that you can show and teach it to others; not just with your words but with your example. In Acts 1:1, the Bible speaks of the things Jesus began both to do and to teach. God wants us to teach His ways that we are practising. Being able to teach without being able to practise the things of God is not God’s will for our lives. God wants us to know and practise His ways first before we teach them to others. Beyond just going to church, you should be growing in your knowing and exercising God’s ways. Our knowledge and practise of the revelation of Christ helps us to grow spiritually, (1Pet.2:2, Acts 20:32, 2Cor.3:18). For Jesus is the way, the truth and the life of God.

When growing children eat, the foods they eat and absorb into their bodies cause them to grow and to mature. As they mature, they are able to advance to eating more solid foods and they keep growing and are able to live and function well. As we grow by receiving and practising the revelation of Christ and engaging in spiritual exercises, we get deeper in our understanding of God and the life of Christ and we are able to receive even deeper truths, revelations and understanding of the revelation of Christ. We increase our capacity to function like Christ. Spiritual maturity is measured by Christlikeness. As we grow spiritually, we increase in discernment and our chances of being deceived also reduces. Do not stop learning and practising the revelation of Christ because of pleasure or trying times. Keep growing all the time.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I desire to grow spiritually and become more like Christ every day. Help me to learn and practise the revelation of Christ more.
