AS NEWBORN BABES

1Peter 2:2-3 (KJV, TPT)

As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. *In the same way that nursing infants cry for milk, you must intensely crave the pure spiritual milk of God’s Word. For this “milk” will cause you to grow into maturity, fully nourished and strong for life— especially now that you have had a taste of the goodness of the Lord..

Have you ever seen a little baby scampering and eagerly craving for milk? The baby does this with all its energy as if its life depends on it, as it really does. That is how God wants you to crave for His word because your life depends on it. For we do not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God, (Matt.4:4).

How is your hunger for the word of God and spiritual things in general? How much is your desire to grow spiritually? How much value and priority have you placed on your spiritual life? The real proof that you desire to grow spiritually is by how much desire and commitment you put into things that can make you grow spiritually.

From the last verse of 1Peter 1, we can see that the word of God that is being referred to in our text above is the Gospel or good news about the revelation of Christ. That is why the second verse of our text above talks about the tasting of the grace of God. The sincere milk of the word that we must crave for to grow spiritually, is the Gospel or good news of the revelation of Christ and the grace of God. Apostle Paul said this is what will build us up and give us our inheritance in God, (Acts 20:32). Study God’s word in the light of Christ and all God has done for you in Christ.

Prayer:
Father, I hunger and thirst for the revelation of Christ and all that you have done for me in Him. Fill my heart with your word this year.
