Be Diligent in Handling Your Finances

Luke 16:10-12 (GNB) Whoever is faithful in small matters will be faithful in large ones; whoever is dishonest n small matters will be dishonest in large ones. If … you have not been faithful in handling worldly wealth, how can you be trusted with true wealth?

Luke 14:28 (NIV) Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?

Proverbs 3:9-10 Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase. So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

The same God that gave Joseph the grace and wisdom to handle all the wealth of Egypt is granting you every grace and wisdom that you need to efficiently handle your finances. As we receive God’s abundant grace, we must also be willing to do our part so that grace will not be in vain in our lives, 1 Cor. 15:10.

One of the first things we must be willing to do diligently is to plan finances. Proverbs 16:9 says, “A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.” The Good News Bible says, “You may make your plans, but God directs your actions.” You must then be willing to take action on your plans and to control yourself. Without action and self-control, you will not be able to achieve your plans. You must be committed to saving. Do not spend more than you earn. IN the years of plenty, Joseph had very good savings for Egypt and during the years of famine, Egypt became a supplier to the world, Gen. 41:47-57. God commands His blessing over your storehouses, Deut. 28:8. Do not be frivolous in spending. Be content with what you have and control your appetite.

Honour God with your tithes and offerings. Trust in God’s abundant supply and declare God’s promises and blessings over your life and finances. Even as a slave in Potiphar’s house, the Bible assures us that the Lord was with Joseph and that he was a prosperous man, Gen. 39:1-2. Laban tried to cheat Jacob and reduce his salary ten times, but God continually gave Jacob wisdom to prosper, Gen. 37:7-9. God will continually open your eyes to legitimate and profitable investment opportunities and grant you innovative and profitable ideas.

Faith Declaration:

By the grace and wisdom of God, I plan, I work hard, I control myself, I save, I give and I invest in profitable ideas and ventures.

  2. Acts 7:22-43
