BE FAITHFUL TO WHAT YOU ARE CALLED TO DO

“As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Which shall prepare thy way before thee. The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight.”  Mark 1:2-3 (KJV)

According to the scriptures, John the Baptist was the forerunner of Jesus Christ. His message consisted in calling men to repentance and believe in Him who should come. That was the core assignment of John the Baptist. He was called to point to the people: “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” (John 1:29 KJV)

The ministry of John the Baptist wasn’t glamourous. He was preaching in the wilderness and his diet and mode of dressing reflected that “And John was clothed with camel’s hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;” (Mark 1:6 KJV)

Nevertheless, Jesus described John the Baptist thus: “Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: …” (Matthew 11:11 KJV). You know at times, we try to compare ourselves with ourselves, as ministers of the Gospel. And at times people try to classify which ministry is bigger and which one is not bigger. It is only God who knows which one is bigger. It is not dependent on how large it is dependent on the assignment you are called to do. Once you are faithful to what you are called to do, you are big in the sight of God and you will receive the same reward as somebody who conquered the whole world.

In God’s reward system, what matters is your faithfulness to what you are called to do. It is always: “… Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” (Matthew 25:21 KJV). It doesn’t matter whether you are seen or not, commended or otherwise. What matters is how faithful you are. It is your faithfulness that the Lord rewards.
