Text: Leviticus 19:35-37 (KJV)

35 Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in meteyard, in weight, or in measure.

36 Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall ye have: I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt.

37 Therefore shall ye observe all my statutes, and all my judgments, and do them: I am the LORD.

Key Verse: “Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in meteyard, in weight, or in measure. Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall ye have: I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt.” – (Leviticus 19:35,36)

MESSAGE:

Since the 15th century, the statue of Lady Justice has been depicted in courts all over the world wearing a blindfold. One may wonder, why the blindfold? It represents objectivity in meting out justice, without fear or favour, regardless of identity, money, power or weakness.

The text under consideration dwell on the instructions God gave the Israelites as regards perverting justice. These laws are put in place as deterrents and warnings to would-be offenders that justice will be meted out without fear or favour. Partiality is evil. It causes disaffection and friction in families, communities and nations.

Unfortunately, in the church, which ought to be “the pillar and ground of the truth”, there have been many reported cases of prejudice due to tribal affiliation, social standing, wealth, education and so on. God hates injustice because He is a just and holy God. He deals fairly with everyone and gives all equal opportunities and chances.

God’s expectation from His children is no less. Uprightness of character, sincerity of purpose must be the hallmark of all true children of God. This is the life that glorifies God and attracts sinners to the Kingdom. “Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace”. There must not be any form of unfair dealings among the children of God either in business transactions, relationships or fellowship. Believers must be just, honest, fair and true to everyone. By so doing, we will be worthy to appear before the righteous and impartial God to give account of all that we have done.

Thought For The Day: Don’t double deal; be just.
