Let be and be still, and know (recognize and understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth!— Psalm 46:10 (AMPC)

Many people today are always running from one thing to the next. They’re addicted to activity, and I used to be one of those people.

For a long time, I felt I had to find something to do all the time. I had to be involved and part of whatever was going on. I thought I couldn’t afford to miss anything because I didn’t want anything to go on that I didn’t know about. I couldn’t be still. I was always up doing something. I wasn’t acting like a human being—I was acting like a human doing.

Thankfully, I discovered that if we’ll be still and not take matters into our own hands, we’ll see the amazing power of God working in our lives. We’re often stressed to the max simply because we keep trying to do things that only God can do. God wants to guide us, but to sense His direction we need to be still! Take time daily to listen. We have two ears and only one mouth, so God must have intended that we listen more than we talk.

When we have plans and ideas, we can give them to God (see Proverbs 3:5-6)—then we’ll have both peace and a plan!

Prayer Starter: Father, please help me to be still in my everyday life and know that You are God. Thank You for taking care of me, and for doing what I can’t do on my own. In Jesus’s Name, amen.
