Bearing Down on Anxiety
NOVEMBER 10, 2022
Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.
Deuteronomy 31:6
Recommended Reading: Deuteronomy 31:1-8
When a former schoolteacher on vacation in North Carolina saw a brown bear climbing on the back deck of her condominium, she used her “teacher voice” to tell the bear to leave. Through the back door, she said, “What do you think you’re doing on my porch? You get down, go, go! How dare you?” Her teacher voice conveyed authority, and the bear began scampering off the balcony and down the railing, as if afraid of being sent to the principal’s office.[1]
Whenever worries, fears, anxieties, and problems invade our hearts, we have to use the voice of authority—the Scripture. We have to say to our feelings, “What do you think you’re doing on my porch?” We have to quote verses to ourselves, to preach to ourselves.
Next time you’re afraid, use your teacher voice to say to yourself: “Be strong and of good courage. Do not fear nor be afraid! The Lord my God is the One who is with me!”
You must… remind yourself of God, Who God is, and what God is and what God has done.
