BEING LIKE CHRIST IN HIS DEATH

2Corinthians 4:8-10 (TPT)

Though we experience every kind of pressure, we’re not crushed. At times we don’t know what to do, but quitting is not an option. We are persecuted by others, but God has not forsaken us. We may be knocked down, but not out. We continually share in the death of Jesus in our own bodies so that the resurrection life of Jesus will be revealed through our humanity.

Our trials, persecutions and challenges provide us with the greatest opportunities to glorify God in our bodies. However, for us to glorify God in such situations, we must have the same perspective and mindset Jesus had. 1Peter 4:1 (GNB) says, “Since Christ suffered physically, you too must strengthen yourselves with the same way of thinking that he had; because whoever suffers physically is no longer involved with sin”. The Passion Translation says, “Since Christ, though innocent, suffered in his flesh for you, now you also must be a prepared soldier, having the same mind-set, for whoever has died in his body is done with sin.”

We will face situations that will make us feel the same way Jesus felt as He suffered and died for us. By deciding not to give up but to hold onto God and go through successfully by pleasing and glorifying God in our bodies, we are being like Jesus in His death. As we share in the death of Jesus this way, the Holy Spirit causes resurrection life to manifest in us. He strengthens us through such times and He causes the nature and character of Christ to develop in us. This is why the Bible says we glory or rejoice in tribulations (Rom.5:3-5).

Like Paul, our greatest desire should be to know Christ and to have the same attitude Christ had in His death so we can experience more of His resurrected life, (Phil.3:10-11). Be willing to glorify God by life or death, (Phil.1:20).

Prayer:
Dear Father, please help me in my trying times to have the same mindset that Jesus had as He suffered and died on the Cross.
