BEING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF THE SPIRIT

Ephesians 5:18-20 (AMPC)

And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but ever be filled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit. Speak out to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, offering praise with voices [and instruments] and making melody with all your heart to the Lord, At all times and for everything giving thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.

We bring ourselves under the influence of the Spirit by doing things that increase our consciousness of His presence in us. As we do this, He takes over our consciousness and influences our behaviours and experiences in line with Christ, (John 16:13-15).

One way we bring ourselves under the influence of the Spirit is by making confessions and declarations of God’s promises and the revelation of Christ. Speaking boldly to ourselves about the things God has promised us and the things Christ has done for us. Another way is by filling ourselves with the revelation of Christ, (Col.3:16). As the revelation of Christ fills our minds, we can declare it to ourselves and the Holy Spirit takes over our consciousness. Another way is by singing and giving thanks to God because of what Christ has done for us. We do this by making chants and singing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs based on our redemption. God wants us to give thanks to Him through or because of Christ, (Col.3:17, GNB). Prayer is another way that we bring ourselves under the influence of the Spirit, (Acts 4:31); especially praying in other tongues, (1Cor.14:14-18). Just as people don’t get drunk by a little sip of alcohol, we must engage in all these things in abundance to be filled with the Spirit. Do them often and in abundance. Be addicted to the Spirit.

Action Point:
Pray in the Spirit and boldly declare God’s promises and the revelation of Christ. Sing of all that Christ has done for you.
