BENEFITS OF RECEIVING THE FORGIVENESS OF OUR SINS

Luke 7:46-48 (TPT)

You didn’t take the time to anoint my head with fragrant oil, but she anointed my head and feet with the finest perfume. She has been forgiven of all her many sins. This is why she has shown me such extravagant love. But those who assume they have very little to be forgiven will love me very little.” Then Jesus said to the woman at his feet, “All your sins are forgiven.”

One significant benefit of always being aware that our sins are forgiven is that it fills our hearts with the great love God has for us. God’s loving kindness draws us to Him (Jer.31:3). The more we are aware of God’s love, the more we will respond to it by loving God in return. We love Him because He first loved us (1 John 4:19). Paul stated that Christ’s love binds us (2Cor.5:14). In our text, Jesus says that the woman who poured her expensive perfume on Him did so because she realised how much she had been forgiven. According to Psalms 130:3-4 (NIV), “If you, LORD, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand?” But you have forgiveness, so we can serve you with reverence.” We’ll want to please Him more in return for His love. What do you think the woman caught in adultery would have done if she truly understood and appreciated the mercy Jesus showed her? (John 8:3-12)

Knowing that our sins are forgiven because of Christ gives us the courage to approach God in order to receive His mercy and find His grace to help us in our time of need (Heb.4:16). Another significant benefit of being aware of God’s love and the fact that all of our sins have been forgiven is that we are able to reflect that same love and forgiveness to others. Jesus wants us to love one another as He loves us (John 15:12).

Prayer:
Dear Father, I thank you for your great love in forgiving my sins. May this love overflow from me to others
