Called According to His Purpose

Romans 8:28-29 (KJV & GNB)
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. *We know that in all things God works for good with those who love him, those whom he has called according to his purpose. Those whom God had already chosen he also set apart to become like his Son, so that the Son would be the first among many believers.

The reason God has given us the life of Christ is so that we can fulfill the purpose of Christ. Colossians 3:4 assures us that Christ is our life. As Christ is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17b). The Bible says, “We are ruled by the love of Christ, now that we recognize that one man died for everyone, which means that all share in his death. He died for all, so that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but only for him who died and was raised to life for their sake” (2Cor.5:14-15, GNB). Jesus guaranteed that we will do the works that He did and even greater works (John 14:12). Jesus sent us into the world, just as the Father sent Him (John 20:21). Jesus said we should love one another as He has loved us (John 15:12). God wants us to grow up into Christ in all things (Eph.4:15). We are His body. We are His flesh and bones (Eph.5:30). Christ’s purpose is our purpose.

Apostle Paul described this as our high calling and he earnestly pressed into it. His greatest desire was to know Christ and to be like Christ (Phil.3:10 & 14). The Bible instructs us that by the gospel, we have been called to obtain the glory of Christ (2Thes.2:14). Therefore, since doing the will of the Father and finishing His work was the source of Jesus greatest satisfaction, it will be the source of our greatest satisfaction too (John 4:34). As Jesus obeyed God and went about preaching the gospel, doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil, we must also do the same for God has anointed us with the Holy ghost and power in the same way that He anointed Jesus (Acts 10:38). As we continue to focus on Christ, the Spirit of God will continue to transform us into Christ and empower us to fulfil His purpose and manifest His glory (2Cor.3:18).

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I thank you for giving me the life and purpose of Christ. I receive your grace to focus on Christ so that I may be like Him and do your will.
