CHILDLIKENESS VS CHILDISHNESS ( 2 )
MATT 18:3(NIV , TPT ), 1 CORINTHIANS 14:20( NKJV)
… unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. …Unless you dramatically change your way of thinking and become teachable and learn about heaven’s kingdom realm with the wide- -eyed wonder of a child, you will never be able to enter in. …do not be children in understanding in understanding, however, in malice be babes , but in understanding be mature.
In our study yesterday, we saw that God wants us to be childlike in learning Christ so we will not be childish by behaving spiritually immaturely. Paul’s reference to children in our second text above is both about what we must not be childish in and what we should have a childlike attitude towards .
Good doesn’t want us to be childish or immature in our understanding of Christ and all He has done for us. As we also saw yesterday, we can only become mature in our understanding of Christ when we have a childlike ( very teachable) attitude toward learning Christ.
Good once us to be childlike, when it comes to malice. Many versions of the Bible use the word ‘evil’ or ‘ matters of evil’ in place of malice. The root word is kakia and it means being depraved, naughty and wicked.
As believers God wants us to have the innocent, kind and loving attitude of a child. Do you know that children do not know how to keep grudges? One major sign that we are growing spiritually is that there is an increase in the way we walk in love with others. The believers in the Corinthian church did not lack any spiritual gift ( 1 CORINTHIANS 1:7 ), but there was a lot of envy, strife and division among them. This made Paul address them as carnal and babes in Christ ( 1 Cor. 3:1 – 3 ).
Prayer:
Father, please help me by your Spirit to always have the innocent, kind and loving attitude of a child.
