CHOOSE TO BE DIFFERENT

Dear Reader,

Welcome to this glorious month. My prayer for you is that your own portion of the blessings for this month will not elude you in Jesus’ name! This week, we shall focus on–‘Choose to be Different’.

It is important to note that one of the ways to submit to God’s will for our lives is by choosing to be different. Therefore, to be different means to be unlike in nature, not the same as. The Bible says: And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind… (Romans 12:2). From the above scripture, we can deduce that God does not want us to comply with the standards of the world. Instead of following the Word of God, we discovered that most Christians today follow the world system and exhibit their lifestyle, behaviour and pattern, and this is more rampant among young people. Based on this fact, we cannot differentiate between believers and those of the world.

Some others have become so laid-back that they have not realised how the world has crept into them because they did not maintain a watchful demeanour. Therefore, we must make a deliberate and conscious decision to be different if we want to encounter greatness in life. The Word says: Ye are the light of the world… (Matthew 5:14). The natural light does not struggle to shine and gives direction. So as children of God, we are ordained to shine and give direction; others must come to the brightness of our light.

Can you imagine yourself in a dark room, trying to find your way around, but immediately a switch is turned on, you do not have to grope about in the dark anymore. Likewise, you are not meant to go about life trying to see how to fit in or belong. Someone once said, ‘Why fit in when you were born to stand out?’ Though you are in the world, you are not of the world. Therefore, change your mindset and begin to act differently.

Why choose to be different? Let us examine the case study of Daniel. Daniel chose to stand out among his peers by denying himself the King’s royal food and wine because he did not want to defy himself (Daniel 1:8). Also, he and the three Hebrew boys took a stand to be different from the others by making a decision to obey God, the situation notwithstanding. The Bible says:  As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams (Daniel 1:17). You can also make a strong decision to stand for Christ today, no matter the situation or circumstances.

However, until you are born again, you cannot connect to God and submit wholeheartedly to His will to be different. You get born again by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. If you are set for this, please say this prayer: Dear Lord, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Now, I know I am born again!
