CHOOSING TO BE DIFFERENT (1)

Dear Reader,

I welcome you to another glorious month. A month packed with pleasant surprises, and my prayer for you is that your own portion of the blessings for this month will not elude you, in Jesus name! Therefore, to enjoy this blessing, you must position yourself rightly by connecting to God and totally submitting to His will. That brings us to our topic for the month, which is captioned Choosing to be Different’.

One way to submit to God’s will is by choosing to be different.  The Bible says, And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind… (Romans 12:2). To be different means to be unlike in nature, not the same as. From the above scripture, we understand God’s stand on this matter; He does not want us to comply with the standards of the world. However, it is discovered today, especially among young people, that many try so hard to belong or fit into the style, pattern and behaviour of the world rather than the Word of God. Some want to experience what the world has to offer, they study the way the world act, dresses and live, and as such, they begin to act accordingly to the point that they cannot be distinguished from the world. Some others have become so laid-back that they do not quickly realise how the world has crept into them because they did not maintain a watchful demeanour. Therefore, we must make a deliberate and conscious decision to be different if we want to encounter greatness in life. Matthew 5:14 says, Ye are the light of the world…. Just as the natural light does not struggle to shine and also gives direction,  you have been destined to naturally shine wherever you are and be that light for others to see.

Can you imagine yourself in a dark room, trying to find your way around and immediately a switch is turned on; you will not have to grope about in the dark anymore. In the same vein, you are not meant to go about life trying to see how you fit in or belong. Someone once said, ‘Why fit in when you were born to stand out?’ You are in the world, but you are not of the world. Therefore, change your mindset and begin to act differently.

You may ask yourself, why should I be different? Let us look at the case study of Daniel in Daniel 1:8; he chose not to defile himself of the royal food and wine. He and the three other Hebrew boys took a stand to be different from the others by making a decision to obey God, the situation notwithstanding. The Bible tells us in Daniel 1:17 that, As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds. You also can make that decision to take a stand for Christ today and begin to enjoy the numerous benefits that comes with it.

However, for you to be empowered to make this decision, you must first be born again. Until you are born again, you cannot connect to God and submit wholeheartedly to His will. You get born again by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour. If you have not asked Jesus to come into your life or may have neglected your initial love for Him, then say this prayer in faith: Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I believe You died and rose again for my sake. Forgive me of my sins, take over my life, make me Your child and let Your peace reign over my life. Thank You for saving me.  Now I know I am born again!
