CLOSE THE DOOR AGAINST SIN AND THE DEVIL

Genesis 4:4-7 (NLT)

…The Lord accepted Abel and his gift, but he did not accept Cain and his gift. This made Cain very angry, and he looked dejected. “Why are you so angry?” the Lord asked Cain. “…You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.”

The fact that God rejected Cain and his offering was not the problem. It was the way Cain reacted to it that opened the door for sin to enter his life. If Cain had listened to God and yielded to God’s correction, Cain would have had another opportunity to do what was right. There are certain things like anger, envy, jealousy, lust and other negative emotions and attitudes that may look harmless at the surface, but when we are not careful to turn away from them and yield ourselves to God as soon as possible, they may lead us into terrible things and habits that we will regret later. We must not allow negative thoughts and emotions to remain in our minds and hearts, (Eph.4:26-27). We must yield ourselves to God and reject them immediately. The way to close the door to the devil is to always open your door/yield yourself to God, (James 4:7). Yield to God’s stirring in your heart when you are going the wrong way and turn back to Him immediately.

The way you respond to correction is also very important. Cain felt he was always right and that he could do whatever he liked and get away with it. Don’t harden your heart when you are being corrected. Refusing to take correction leads to destruction, (Prov. 29:1). On the other hand, though taking correction can be painful, but it leads to a harvest of righteousness and peace, Heb. 12:11.

Prayer:
Father, please help me to always yield myself and my emotions to you. Help me respond rightly whenever I am being corrected
