COMMUNICATE WISELY

“Whither shall we go up? our brethren have discouraged our heart, saying, The people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover, we have seen the sons of the Anakims there.” Deuteronomy 1:28 (KJV)

According to the account documented in the book of Numbers chapter 13, twelve leaders were sent out to spy on the Promised Land. Ten leaders returned with a negative report, and two returned with a positive report. The report of the ten leaders discouraged the people and kept the people of God in the wilderness for forty years.

When leaders are sent on an assignment, they must be careful of the type of report they bring and the type of environment where such reports are shared. They said we saw giants. We cannot take the land! Forget about what Caleb and Joshua are saying! We saw the giants with our eyes. They shared these things openly, and the multitude began to doubt God. Rather than encourage the people, they created fear that led to another forty years in the wilderness.

Like I always say, everyone in the church is a potential leader. You may not be leading anyone today, but learn the principles because it will be your turn tomorrow. As a leader, learn to communicate wisely. Imagine the effect if the leaders had told the people of the richness of the land and the big fruits they saw, then approached Moses to express their fears. You know the outcome would have been different. When a leader begins to share things when it is not the time to share them, he will certainly create more problems. Even if what he shares is true.

Every leader must be careful and realise that the ultimate aim in every situation is to preserve the unity of the body. A leader should always focus on maintaining the body’s unity. Some of your decisions may not be popular. You are not in leadership for popular applause. You should always consider the owner of the Kingdom in any decision you are making. How will it affect Him? How will it affect the house which He built with His blood? That should always be your consideration before you share some things.
